When David McComb appeared at the Pennsylvania State Police Trevose barracks last month to update his sex offender registration, he claimed that during the previous three days he had lost his job and vehicle, and also moved into a new home.
But the 47-year-old Bristol Township man didn’t make it out of the parking lot before state police allege they caught him in a lie, followed by more lies.

McComb appeared at the state police barracks on Feb. 19 claiming he had moved to Bristol Township to live with his sister and that he had to turn in his 1993 Chevy Lumina van, which was a work vehicle after he lost his job, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Under state law, registered sex offenders must update changes in their home or work addresses, vehicles and other information within three business days for monitoring purposes or face potential felony charges.
McComb, who was convicted of rape, is considered a high-risk sex offender in Pennsylvania. He has been on the sex offender registry since 2002.
McComb claimed that a friend had driven him to the barracks that day so he could update his information. After he completed the process, he got into the driver’s seat of a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with a woman passenger, police said.
A trooper stopped the Mercury before it left the parking lot, after he realized that McComb hadn’t mentioned the Mercury during the registration process, according to court documents.
The officer spoke with the female passenger, who initially claimed she was McComb’s sister, but later admitted she was his wife, the affidavit shows.
His wife also told police that McComb was the Mercury’s registered owner, and that he had been living at the Bristol Township address and had been out of work for longer than he acknowledged to state police, the court records show.
When the trooper interviewed McComb again, he admitted that he has owned the Mercury for at least two years, lost his job in September and moved to Bristol Township in mid January, the affidavit said. The trooper updated McComb’s registration and let him go.
Further investigation, though, revealed that McComb owned the Mercury since 2010, and also owns a 1994 Dodge Dakota, which wasn’t registered with state police, as required, police said. Police said they also found out that he moved on Dec. 1.
McComb is charged with failure to comply with registration of sexual offender requirements and related offenses. He was arraigned Friday before Bensalem District Judge Joseph Falcone and sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of 10 percent of $200,000 bail.
